Josefa Henríquez

I am an applied economist with strong industry experience and an international profile. I am passionate about the application of economics to key public and private sector challenges, particularly in the health sector. My work is driven by a strong quantitative focus and the utilization of large claims data.

I am currently an Associate Lecturer in Applied Economics at the University of Newcastle (Australia). I previously held an appointment at the Centro de Estudios Públicos (currently ranked No. 1 in Chile and among the Top 5 in Latin America), and served as Economic Advisor to the Minister of Health, Dr. Emilio Santelices C., where I led the team responsible for drafting the health insurance reform bill.

I hold a BA in Economics and a Professional Certificate in Business Engineering from the University of Chile. My PhD dissertation at the University of Newcastle, explored the design of healthcare systems to achieve equity and efficiency, with special focus on the role of competition and innovative resource allocation methods to meet patients’ needs and lower costs without compromising quality.
